Chilly in the Derby City

I know that fall is officially here, not because of the weather man, but because of the actual temperatures! Yesterday, as I drove home from work, I saw this.

Or, more specifically, this:

That's right. 59 degrees. Yikes! What happened to a gradual cooling? It seems we go from 80 to 60 overnight. I need more notice. Really.

I guess I'll be rummaging through my winter clothes this weekend.

What's the weather where you are?

Enjoy :)

Before and After: Paper Towel Diet

I decided it would be best if I went all the way with this paper towel diet. So down came the paper towel holder and in it's place went some pretties. :)

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Do you think I need a light there? Perhaps a small lamp? Thoughts?

Enjoy :)

TV Room Re-do

The bug bit me yesterday- the "re-arrange your furniture" bug!

I struggle with my tv room for soo many reasons, including:
1. It is rectangular instead square.
2. Too many openings into other rooms or access for windows. Don't get me wrong, I like an open floor plan, but this is pretty ridiculous.
3. Part of the kitchen counter comes out into the room, so I pretty much cannot use that wall.
4. The media center is way too big. I need to invest in a flat panel and get rid of the monster.

On to the show: here is the before,

And here is the after. I took the advice of quite a few HGTV's and TLC's and angled the couch. Truthfully, I'm not real sure if I like this but it makes for a nice change.

What do you think? Is the angled couch working?

Enjoy :)

A New Kind of Diet

It's time. Past time really. I need to stop the insanity of PAPER TOWELS!

Yep, these guys are my next month's goal. I'm going to "diet" them out of the house. Instead, of using them, they will be re-homed to the garage (out of sight, out of mind) and start to use my beautiful dish towels instead. Goodness knows that I have plenty of them!

What about you? Have you been on a paper towel diet?

Enjoy :)

Boo-teeful Things!

Yes, one of my favorite holidays is around the corner- Halloween! So, yesterday I went to Micheal's to score some early bargains.

Score!

Here is what I bought:

Some raffia and some Halloween decorations- I'll use these to make a garland for the fireplace.

A felt plaque and some colorful stickers- I'm not sure where I'll put this, but it will have a nice home once done. :)

Some make-your-own kits- Once finished they will go on the fireplace with some battery operated candles.

I am so excited and want to decorate now! When do you usually decorate?

:) Enjoy!

Desk Design

Last weekend, I was fortunate to find this baby for a steal ($5).

Not only do I think the size is perfect for my extra bedroom, but I like the bumped-out details of the top drawer, and even the hardware.

This week, I hope to sand it, paint it, and also paint the hardware. I'm thinking white paint on the desk with the hardware a glossy black.

I found some great pictures of desk re-do's, but am unable to find them. Next time, I'll bookmark them.

:) Enjoy!

Halloween Goodies!

Yes, the stores have their Halloween stock out, and I'm loving it! While browsing this weekend, I found a really neat booth at one of the local peddler's mall.

Wouldn't these be fabulous as a mantel decoration? I'll make them my September project, but with a few different touches (orange letters and string them together with black and white ribbon).

Enjoy! :)

One of my New Favorite Blogs

Fab Find Under $50 -> I love this fashion blog. Per her profile, she is "Just a midwestern chick bargain shopping her way through life. It may not be the high profile style of NYC or LA, but it works for me!"

She pairs fun shoes with colorful scarfs, and all of it is budget friendly. (Insert happy dance!)

Plus, she puts together a fashion calendar. It's a great way to shop my closet!

Here are some of my favorites (click on the pictures to visit her blog):
